The rural town of Cottonwood, about two hours north of Phoenix, hosted Industrial Punk powerhouse THERE IS NO US with Phoenix alternative rock outfit JANE N THE JUNGLE at The Queen B Vinyl Cafe last Saturday on December 14th.
The Queen B Vinyl Cafe, formerly named Puscifer the Store, is a record store/coffee shop/barbershop run by TOOL frontman MAYNARD JAMES KEENAN. He moved the establishment from Jerome earlier this year and hosted the location’s grand opening on October 23rd. Apart from a wide record selection to choose from, die hard fans of KEENAN’s musical projects can find a collection of rare merchandise such as foil posters from his most recent tours with PUSCIFER and A PERFECT CIRCLE available for sale in store. I personally walked out of the store buying an ANAMANAGUCHI record and a ZORN 7-inch from them before the show began.
Before the show, THERE IS NO US vocalist JIM LOUVAU showcased a photography exhibit within the store, displaying images he has personally taken of various musical acts including ALICE COOPER, KISS, QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE, SLAYER, POPPY, and KEENAN himself. A mixture of studio portraits and live concert shots of the aforementioned artists took up such a large presence of the establishment next to the stage, you couldn’t ignore it if you tried. A small stage was tucked away behind the shelf of heavy metal albums in preparation for the show.
A few hours later, the shelves of records would be pushed aside to clear space for the crowd coming in. JANE N THE JUNGLE welcomed the packed audience, opening up with “GTFO.” They ended their set with “Life Of The Party.” Two TV screens took up each side of the stage alongside flashing light tubes in preparation for THERE IS NO US. The house lights dimmed before they took the stage with righteous headbanging fury, playing songs from their latest self-titled album such as “Fame Whore” and “GET FK’D,” which the aforementioned song should be the anthem to being violently pissed off. The dichotomy of LOUVAU’s library voice to his raging shouting ,and how quickly he switches between the two, is something heard live to be believed. Their cover of RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE’s “Killing In The Name” would wrap up the party. If you couldn’t make it to this outing, you’ll have another chance to catch THERE IS NO US at The Rebel Lounge supporting Denver goth metal outfit RORSCHACH TEST on January 26th, 2025.
